Your Auburn Mold Inspector

Shelly L

Professional Background:

I have been a Certified Mold Inspector since 2016 and have carried out inspections across the Pacific Northwest ever since. I got my start with MI&T after a couple of years performing occupancy inspections; they trained me in the field alongside an experienced inspector, and I have been doing this work — and loving it — ever since. Over the years I have deepened my expertise through formal credentials, including the InterNACHI IAC2 Mold Certification and certification through the Certified Mold Inspectors & Contractors Institute. These programs cover mold inspection standards, moisture and indoor-air-quality assessment, and a strict code of ethics, and they keep me current on best practices for identifying, documenting, and helping resolve mold problems. Today I bring that experience to homeowners, renters, and businesses throughout the greater Seattle metro area.

Major Metro Served:

I am a lifelong Pacific Northwesterner and now call the Seattle area home. It is hard to pick a favorite thing about living here — between Puget Sound, the Cascades and Mount Rainier to the east, and the Olympics across the water, there is always somewhere beautiful to get outside. I also love how welcoming and diverse the communities are across the metro, from Seattle proper to Bellevue, Tacoma, Everett, and the surrounding suburbs. Our wet, marine climate is a big part of what makes this region so green — and it is also exactly why mold inspection matters so much here. Long rainy seasons, high humidity, and plenty of older homes with basements and crawlspaces mean moisture problems are common, and catching them early makes a real difference.

What do you like most about being a mold inspector?

I LOVE the moment when I find an issue that an owner suspected but could not pin down — locating the hidden source and being able to say, “here it is, and here is what we do about it.” Knowing I did my job well and gave someone answers they can act on is the best part of the work. I also take pride in explaining what I find in plain language, so people understand not just that there is a problem, but why it is happening and how to fix it for good.

Describe an inspection that you are particularly proud of:

Some of the work I am proudest of involves helping tenants who feel unheard. I have inspected homes where a landlord either did not believe there was a mold problem or refused to address it, and being able to produce a clear, thorough, well-documented report gave those renters the credible evidence they needed to have the issue taken seriously and finally resolved. Good documentation can change the outcome for a family, and that is what keeps me motivated.
