Michael Clark

Professional Background:

I have a four year degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in civil engineering. I am a state certified general contractor, roofing contractor, and mold inspector for Florida. I also have over 25 years of experience in the building trades.

Major Metro Served: How long have you lived here and what do you like most about living in this area.

I live in Southwest Florida for over 30 years. What I like the most from this area is the warm weather and the friendly people. I live around five minutes away from the beach, so there’s always a place to relax at.

What do you like most about being a mold inspector?:

It’s really quite rewarding to help people live in a safe environment. Many would rather just get the treatment done than the actual test but many also don’t know a lot of these companies are just trying to sell them on the work. It is very important to get it tested before the treatment gets performed to know the source, what type of mold it is, and how to properly get it treated.

Describe an inspection that you are particularly proud of: (Specifics on mold issue, Client relationship, What was rewarding about it)

I remember doing a mold inspection for a grandmother near Cape Coral that had a previous water leak coming from the refrigerator. Before I went out there they had a remediation company go out because they offered a free inspection. The contractor stated that upon his visual inspection he determined there was high amounts of toxic mold. The woman, unfortunately, became very distraught because her two month old granddaughter was staying at their house for around two weeks. After talking it over with the remediation contractor she came to believe her granddaughter could possibly die because of this.

When I finally went out there I explained to her without proper lab testing no one can determine if there is elevated mold conditions in the air, or if it is toxic or not. I took several air quality samples through out the the house and got back with their report and lab results as soon as possible. The samples indicated no rooms in the house were elevated with mold. I went over the report with her and reassured her there was not a mold issue in the property and her granddaughter was not at any risk. Needless to say, she was very happy with the results and relieved no unnecessary remediation had to be performed.

Why should a prospective client choose you to perform their mold inspection?:

A client should choose me to perform their mold inspection because I will always take their issues seriously and find the source of their mold problem if they have one. I won’t try to sell you on any unnecessary work like other companies will. Helping client live in a safe environment is something that is very important to me.

Mold Inspection & Testing Fort Myers Florida

For clients that do have elevated levels of mold in their residence, we supply a comprehensive protocol for removal. This includes a step-by-step procedure for how the labor should be handled and who should be doing the work. Mold remediation is different than a typical remodeling job. When removing contaminated materials, you are sending thousands of mold spores into the air. For this reason, problem areas should be contained and equipped with an airscrubber while work is being finished. After contaminated materials are removed, walls must be hepa vacuumed and treated with antimicrobial solutions and sealants. These are things that professional remediation companies have the capabilities of doing that a normal construction company would not. If this type of work is attempted by someone without the proper experience, there is a good chance they will only further the air quality issues within the residence or business.

When dealing with these types of issues in your property or business, you want to make sure that you hire a company without a conflict of interest. Hiring a Westland, Michigan mold remediation company to finish an inspection is an example of what you don’t want to do. These companies often offer free inspections to get their foot in their door to pitch a larger, more pricey job. As we already mentioned, sometimes people have results that come back with no problem at all or one small enough to be handled on their own. A visual inspection could never tell you these types of details and some mold remediation companies would not pass up the opportunity for work by letting you know your concerns are unnecessary.
